Sea kayak to Rangitoto Island, the largest and youngest of Aucklands volcanoes and the landmark of the Auckland region, while the sun is slowly setting over Auckland and the Waitakere Ranges.
After your safety briefing and paddling instruction you will kayak across the Waitemata harbour, meaning 'sparkling waters', where you may see wildlife such as Little Blue Penguins and Cooks Petrels.
We pull our kayaks up to Rangitoto wharf before embarking on a one-hour explorative, fun and informative trek to the summit, viewing the spectacular sites and learning all about the history of the region. Upon reaching the top you will be treated to the finest 360 degree views that the Auckland region has to offer.
At the return to the water’s edge, a healthy Kiwi-style BBQ dinner will be awaiting you.
With your guide, you will paddle back in the dark watching the city lights sparkle like stars.
Our guides are very experienced and skilled sea kayakers with a personal commitment and passion for conservation and kayaking. Their knowledge of the area, understanding of the weather systems and catering abilities will ensure your trip is both enjoyable and safe.

'Auckland Sea Kayaks owner-operator Nic Mead is an unofficial custodian of the Waitemata Harbour. The environment-conscious kayaker grew up overlooking the waters he now paddles daily, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm while leading one of Auckland's most rewarding outdoor experiences: the sunset trip to Rangitoto Island.'
"For an incredible view of Auckland, a sunset night sea kayak to Rangitoto Island will be hard to forget" NZ Herald Four of the best kayaking trips
"This was our second time around doing the Sunset to Rangitoto trip, this time in the company of a group of friends. The guides are friendly, obviously love what they do and are knowledgeable about the harbour and surrounds. For a catered trip, the quality of the food is excellent.
As an Auckland local I can honestly say that this is the single best adventure tourism trip in the region. " Reviewed 14 January 2015
"Overall, it was one of the highlights of our 3-week trip to New Zealand. I would be sad for anyone who comes to this beautiful country and didn't get the chance to experience this. Thank you Nic, we will remember this forever!" Reviewed by K&G, visited November 2015
