Blue Penguins in Auckland
Auckland is fortunate to be surrounded by wildlife. 1/3 of all types of marine mammals are found in Auckland.
The blue penguin is also known in Maori as korora. They come ashore under the cover of darkness and live underground in burrows. Blue penguins in New Zealand have rather variable breeding seasons. The core egg-laying period for most of New Zealand is September to November, and only one clutch is laid.
The Blue penguins are a common site on many of our sea kayak tours however you need to have a watchful eye as the blend in well with the blue water.
