Herald Island sea kayak launch location

Herald Island – sea kayak launch location

Herald Island is only 20 minutes away from Auckland city and is a great place to launch kayaks from. It is also five minutes away from Westgate, which is a shopping and entertainment precinct located at the top of the North Western motorway.

The island is connected to the mainland by a causeway and is surrounded by mangroves, round the back of Whenuapei.

The island offers a peaceful and friendly community in a minded environment.

Christmas Beach is a great spot on the island, providing a new playground for kids, barbeque facilities and picnic tables. If you are planning a kayak tour up to the Historic Riverhead Tavern this is a great spot to launch from.

You have the chance to see beautiful places and to explore the mangroves, not far away from the city

Hearld island also has twin wharf on the northern side which is another great launch location for those wishing to paddle towards to the outer reaches of the Waitamata Harbour.
