Kayaking at night to Rangitoto Island or Browns Island can be a surreal experience and one that you may remember for your whole life.

Night kayaking is safe and very enjoyable when done in a controlled environment with experienced people. When kayaking at night it is important to be prepared, well light and have a well though out contingency plan in place.

Night kayak equipment that is necessary;

  • All round white light 1.5 meters above you kayak deck.
  • Two forms of water proof communications
  • Water proof high powered torch
  • Route plan and mapUp to date weather fore cast
  • Experienced paddle partners with local knowledge
