Operations manager required

POSITION FILLED: Auckland Sea Kayaks & Mission Bay Watersports requires a full time operations manager.

Key Objectives

The primary objectives of this position are:


Assist with recruiting and employing appropriate staff

Training new staff to the standards of Auckland Sea Kayaks and our Safety Management Plan (SMP) and Safe Operating Procedures (SOP).

Health and Safety

Operating ASK to that of the Safety Management Plan (SMP)

Running ASK to that of the Safe Operating procedures

Identify new hazards and ways to mitigate them

Work with the staff and management to achieve our Health and Safety goal which is ‘Zero harm to Auckland Sea Kayaks staff, clients and visitors.’

Be committed to accurate reporting and recording hazards, incidents and accidents

Lead ASK towards achieving its health and safety target of zero incidents

Providing strong safety leadership in order to foster and support a robust safety culture

Coordinating staff training & professional development


Replying to emails for ASK and MBW

Keeping the online booking system up to date and workable

Taking phone calls for ASK and MBW when not guiding


Overall responsibility for the running of tour to ASK standard

Take responsibility of tours when they are operating

Working with the staff to increase our capacity on all tours

In charge of catering

Base responsibility / tidiness and managing base staff

Use you passion for environmental sustainability to make ASK close to zero waste


Guiding sea kayak tours when necessary. On the fringe seasons and winter Daniel may be the only kayak guide a ASK and staff member at MBW

Work at Mission Bay Watersports (MBW) when necessary

Facilitate groups at either ASK or MBW

Mission Bay Watersports

Oversee the MBW operation

Coordinate staffing


Coordinating large groups

Gear maintenance

MBW daily leader reports to you

Implementing systems and running MBW to our SOPs

Amazing adventures with a Duke of Edinburgh group last weekend. We explored loads of sea caves, learnt about sustainable journeys and the 7 steps of leave no trace @dukeofednz
Stunning morning with flat water as we got set up for another @emr_nz day. Loads of locals learning about how amazing Lake Rototoa is. For those that don't about this amazing sand dune fresh water lake which is located at the northern end of the south head of the Kaipara Harbour should go and check it out. Or even better wait until EMR runs another of their legendary experience days @visitauckland
