Sea Kayak Guide Profile Nic Mead

Nic Mead has been a sea kayak guide for over ten years paddling and traveling to over 35 countries around the world.

He is currently head guide and operations manager for Auckland Sea Kayaks and is responsible training and safety for Auckland’s largest guided sea kayak company.

Nic Mead is born and breed in Auckland and spent many years climbing and paddling in New Zealand’s South Island before heading overseas. He found himself in Norway and sea kayak guided the fjords of Norway amongst other things for 6 years.

Nic Mead loves being home in Auckland and now understands why Auckland is the world’s most unique kayaking location.

Nic is a current board member for Sea Kayak Operators Association of New Zealand, (SKOANZ) and is very active in the new Adventure Activity Regulations being rolled out in 2014 by WorkSafe NZ. He also holds an Inshore Launch Masters qualification, Bachelors Degree in Management, is a qualified Coast Guard Boating Education teacher, guest lectures at Tertiary Education level and can be seen out in a sea kayak most days of the week. Nic is passionate about the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park and the various conservation projects that are operating in the Gulf.

Amazing adventures with a Duke of Edinburgh group last weekend. We explored loads of sea caves, learnt about sustainable journeys and the 7 steps of leave no trace @dukeofednz
Stunning morning with flat water as we got set up for another @emr_nz day. Loads of locals learning about how amazing Lake Rototoa is. For those that don't about this amazing sand dune fresh water lake which is located at the northern end of the south head of the Kaipara Harbour should go and check it out. Or even better wait until EMR runs another of their legendary experience days @visitauckland
