Auckland sea kayaking during winter

Kayaking around Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf is great every month of the year.

Auckland is the warmest main centre of New Zealand and is also one of the sunniest, with an average of 2060 sunshine hours per annum.

Kayaking in the cooler months mean longer periods of fine calm weather and fewer people are out on the water.

A few extra items that I bring during the winter months include;

  • A pair of day two poggies (paddle gloves)
  • Worm thermal or wollen top
  • Dry top ( use a kokatat Helix dry top)
  • Warm socks and shoes
  • Foam heel pads to keep them of the ground
  • Warm neoprene shorts

The above gear is all supplied on any Auckland Sea Kayaks guided tour.

Beautiful jellyfish found on the shoreline at Motukorea. Any marine biologists out there have some intel on this cool creature? @emr_nz
