The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award Gold Expedition was what the Auckland Sea Kayaks crew was up to last week.

This was done for St Mary’s College from Ponsonby in Auckland. For this award the girls had to design, plan, implement a journey over 100km travelled in over 4 days. We did this by paddling 160km from Tamaranui to Pipiriki down the mighty Whanganui River.

It was a pleasure to paddle with a motivated group o girls and their positive attitude was a pleasure to be around.

Auckland Sea Kayaks has become a leader in the upper North Island for providing what is necessary for school’s to complete certain aspects of this award.
